A bridal show at the Kern County Fairgrounds
was packed Sunday with hundreds scouting out everything they needed for
their special day.
Brides-to-be smelled bouquets, sipped margarita samples and flipped
through photography books at various booths, their moms and future grooms
trailing behind.
The show also included prize giveaways, a fashion show and a dance-off.
Debbie Phillips, 23, of Bakersfield was drawn to a makeup and hair
booth.
"I'm super excited," she said about planning her Aug. 21 wedding. "I'm
just trying to pace myself."
She was also looking for a photographer, flowers and table and chair
rentals. A 16-seat Hummer limousine was the most eye-catching offering,
she said.
Erika Futrell, 20, came to the show with her mother and fiancé. She
focused on one thing.
"Photographer," Futrell said. "That's the most important thing."
Her 20-year-old fiancé, Andrew Vaughn, agreed.
"A photographer is today's mission," he said.
Nearby, Evonne Elisondo, 22, was checking out some sparkly bridal
gowns. She just started planning her May wedding and was in a rush to get
everything in order for the ceremony.
"We're just kind of looking at everything," she said.
Many, apparently wanting someone else to handle the details, swarmed
the wedding-coordinating booth.
Meghan McDonald of The Perfect Place said she's seen the coordinator
industry grow over the last four years, as more women are want to rely on
a one-stop shop that makes wedding planning stress-free.
"You only have one time to do it," she said. "You want to make it
right."
